Mario: -FICTION- Desert King

No, Luigi didn't marry Daisy or something...well sorta. Where did I get the idea of "King Luigi?" Nvm, I was inspired by lots of people actually. ( & )

Over time I had somewhat of a story for this "poster" pic. Go elsewhere, or go get popcorn, 'cause it's a full fledged story.

STORY TIME!

Since Daisy spends most of her time in the Mushroom Kingdom, she hasn't been in her own kingdom very often. Tatanga, the purple alien who once kidnapped her returns to Sarasaland. Although he was hired by Wario during the last invasion his overall objective was just the same; to take Princess Daisy as his bride and all four kingdoms as well. Unlike the last incident where Mario rescued Daisy, defeated the tyrant Tatanga, and freed the citizens of Sarasaland of their brainwashing, this time was much more difficult to resolve.

The favor was on Tatanga's side.

Due to Daisy's absence, the citizens of Sarasaland felt they had no real leadership residing over their kingdom. Though they respected Daisy, she was only their princess. They had no leader, nor a king ruling and protecting them. And though Tatanga's brainwashing pitted them against Mario in the past, they saw Tatanga's potential. The kingdom's chancellors arranged a meeting and came to an agreement....

They wanted a king....and Tatanga was the chosen candidate.

Daisy, outraged by her subject's response was absolutely against the idea of becoming queen with Tatanga beside her as king. She was fine with just being princess, but she also cared for her kingdom's wishes. Still, she refused and furiously protested against her fate.

Daisy refused to remain quiet.

During the whole commotion, Daisy was suddenly struck with an idea. Without a second thought, she latched onto Luigi, who happened to be visiting her palace with the toad ambassador for national relations with the Mushroom Kingdom.

Holding strongly onto his arm, Daisy mindlessly and bluntly blurted out, "You can't! I'm already engaged...to him!" Luigi shocked, surprised and confused by the princess's sudden outburst turned to her panicking and ushering to her, "Daisy?! What are you doing?!" to which she quickly replied, "just play along!"

Luigi and Daisy were very good friends, but many also assumed them to be more than that.

The chancellors, and especially Tatanga, were not convinced by the princess's claims, but Daisy fiercely held her grounds. Obviously, there was a problem with her "wishes." Luigi was no prince. He wasn't of a royal lineage. And although he was one of the seven original star babies and also the brother of the famed hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, he would have to prove himself worthy. Therefore, in respect to their princess's wish the chancellors agreed to give her "chosen one" a chance to prove his worth.

A bumbling green fool, ruling as King?

Luigi is given the task to "rule" over the desert kingdom, Birdabuto and the water islets of the oceanic kingdom of Muda. (Hence the design of his clothing ) If the subjects acknowledged Luigi as a fit leader they would consider him in place of Tatanga to become king of Sarasaland. Now if Luigi refuses to take on the task, not only would he put the neighboring Mushroom Kingdom in danger, but his friend would be forced into marriage. The thought of Daisy having to marry somebody against her will didn't suit him. Not only was his decision for national security, but Luigi didn't want to leave a friend in need.

Taking the initiatives.

Meanwhile Tatanga, not believing the fiasco happening in front of him knew Daisy only went with a quick ticket out of her engagement to him. Tatanga decides to seek out a certain Koopa King residing in Dark Land for assistance. Obviously if Sarasaland was put under military rule by Tatanga, it was in Bowser's best interest, because the Mushroom Kingdom would easily fall into his grasp and with it, the woman he has continuously kidnapped over the past...Princess Peach.

Bring down the King!

Tatanga's aim was to prove who Luigi really was, a goofy, shy, timid, and spineless man, who was incapable of anything and certainly unfit of being a leader. His aim was to expose Luigi as an ordinary plumber, and a fumbling fool who just so happens to make use of the kingdom's magical items. Though Daisy felt bad for foolishly dragging Luigi into her problems, it wasn't like she didn't like Luigi. He was a good friend. Unique on his own terms and rising to the occasion if absolutely needed.

So, with all the risks at stake, can Luigi do it? >8)

Artist's Commentary

...wow....holy crap, look, I ended up writing an entire freaking story idea to this! XD;;;

Originally, it was just going to be some "King Luigi" shot. Then I had some left-over doodles, which I won't post, 'cause they are ugly XP;;. I ended up with Daisy there. Tatanga was actually additionally drawn just for this pic, and the longer I looked at this after completing this piece....the more I began to think and here's the story that spawned from it. I'd like to claim rights to the written storyline but this kind of scenario isn't very original anyway. (I am calling dips on Daisy and Luigi's outfit designs though! )

I had fun writing and developing this story pitch. It looks like a solid one for a fanfic/comic. I still have to finish "Brotherly Love" and "Alone at Home." Well, I dunno, but maybe there'll be more of this in the future. Never know.

Reminds you what does with his work, no? I give him credit for showing how this narrative can be organized. Despite the dumbness and being cheesed out with what I wrote, it really has been forever since I last wrote a fanfic of the sort.

I've been keeping this completed piece since November '08, so think of it as a stand-in for while I still need to work on my other two comics. X)

I'm sure barely anybody read everything. XD;; Your loss. Enjoy. 8P


I have a lazy habit of only using pencil linearts now. XP Hence why it's not very "clean."


Lineart: Not only did I have fun designing, but I really like Luigi's royal desert wardrobe too. X3
Shading & Color: More than 1.5 hours...didn't track it.
Developing/Write-up of storyline: Roughly 2 hours & 15 mins.
